Edinburgh coach praises spirit after first Heineken Cup win

Edinburgh head coach Rob Moffat says his players keeping calm helped them to a 17-13 success against Ulster. The Irish side dominated for large spells of the contest but the Scots emerged with the win thanks to late scores by Tim Visser and Phil Godman. Edinburgh claimed their first win of this season's Heineken Cup as Visser went over for an unconverted try before Godman sealed victory with a last-minute penalty. "I was always confident even when Ulster were ahead," said Moffat. "They are the kind of side that look to get a few points in the lead and then Ian Humphreys drills the ball into your area and says 'What are you going to do?' "Ulster fly up in defence and are very difficult to play against. I was pleased that we didn't panic and try to counter-attack when it wasn't on. "In the second half we kept going and by the end were the better side by a long way."

Ulster blow

Ulster head coach Brian McLaughlin said: "Basically I'm very disappointed with how we played throughout and with the second half in particular. "In that time we kicked poorly, didn't chase well and let them back in the game. They caused us problems at the break down and we lost line-out ball three times in their 22." Surveying where Ulster stand in the Heineken Cup, McLaughlin added: "We came with the intention of winning in order to top a very tight group. "If we are to qualify we now have to win our two home games against Stade Francais and Edinburgh and try to get something in Paris. "However, I'm very happy to have the losing bonus point. That is the positive from playing so poorly."
