Quins lock hangs up his boots after ten years at club

Harlequins veteran Jim Evans has announced his retirement as a result of his latest shoulder injury. The 29-year-old lock, who represented England Saxons in 2007 and also played for England Under-21s, ends a ten-year association with the London club but will be involved with both technical analysis and conditioning at the Stoop for the foreseeable future. Quins head coach John Kingston praised Evans and hailed the dedication he has shown to the club. "I have personally worked with him for 8 years and he has always given his best and put the club first," said Kingston. "He will be a sad loss on the field as he has the utmost respect from his fellow players."

Emotional

Evans admitted his sadness at finishing his playing career and expressed his gratitude to everyone involved at the club. "This is a very sad day for me bringing down the curtain on ten great years at Harlequins," said Evans. "It was ironic that the day I was advised to hang up my boots was exactly to the day, the tenth anniversary, since signing my first professional contract with the club. "I have had some incredible times at Quins from winning the Parker Pen cup in the last minute in Reading to beating Stade Français in front of 80,000 in the Stade De France. I was also extremely privileged to represent my country for both the under 21's and Saxons in 2007. "I would like to thank my team mates for their support as well as all of the backroom and medical staff at Quins. "I would also like to thank John Kingston and Mark Evans for their continued understanding and kindness throughout my career. The club is unrecognisable from when I originally signed and I have no doubt it will go from strength to strength."
