As well as hosting rugby games, part of "The Lord of the Rings: The Two Towers" was filmed there.
The multi-purpose venue has held a number of major sporting events since being opened in 2000. The 'Cake Tin' was built to replace the old Athletic Park - and has become the home of the Hurricanes in Super Rugby. Away from the sport, the ground has also held the Edinburgh Military Tattoo - the first time the event has been hosted outside the Scottish capital - while part of "The Lord of the Rings: The Two Towers" was filmed there. The ground - also known as the Westpac Stadium - is also the venue for the Wellington leg of the IRB World Sevens Series.
