WWE Fastlane - key questions: Will 'Destroyer' Samoa Joe be stopped?
Will Bayley end Charlotte's impeccable PPV singles record?
Monday 6 March 2017 00:07, UK
Goldberg will be hunting a third world title - and first in over 13 years - at WWE Fastlane on Sunday night.
The wrestling legend has previously won the WCW Championship and World Heavyweight Title, and he will be looking to add the Universal Title to his collection when he challenges Kevin Owens, live on Sky Sports Box Office.
The show's other highlights include Charlotte aiming to regain the Raw Women's Championship from Bayley and Samoa Joe's first match on a WWE main-roster pay-per-view, against Sami Zayn.
Here are the key questions heading into WWE Fastlane…
Will Goldberg win the big one?
December 14, 2003. That was when Goldberg last held a world title, having been dethroned by Triple H at the end of a Triple Threat Match, which also involved Kane, at Armageddon. The powerhouse left WWE a few months later - albeit not before beating Brock Lesnar at WrestleMania 20 - to head into retirement, but is eyeing gold again after an impactful return.
The 50-year-old destroyed Lesnar - the man he will meet at WrestleMania 33 on April 2 - in just 86 seconds at Survivor Series in November, before then dumping out of January's Royal Rumble Match. Owens has questioned the veteran's stamina but Goldberg looks likely to be his toughest test to date - and that's saying something considering he has already come up against Seth Rollins and Roman Reigns.
Owens will be at a slight weight disadvantage but his biggest issue could be a lack of back-up - Jericho has helped The Prizefighter keep hold of his belt on numerous occasions but Owens ended their alliance last month by hurling Y2J into an LED screen on Raw. If Jericho shows up at Fastlane, you'd imagine it will be as Owens' foe, not his friend...
Will Samoa Joe be stopped?
No-one's been able to do it so far! Since debuting on Raw in January, the former NXT Champion has injured Rollins, beaten Reigns and Cesaro, and a launched a couple of stinging assaults on Zayn.
Zayn earned a modicum of revenge this week, flipping onto The Destroyer from the entrance ramp and proved at Roadblock, when he lasted 10 minutes with Braun Strowman, that he can compete with bigger men.
That said, he is still seeking his first win over Joe on WWE television, having drawn with him in a standard bout and then lost to him in a two-out-of-three falls match during their time in NXT. Sunday could be equally frustrating for The Underdog from the Underground.
Will Charlotte lose on pay-per-view?
It's got to end sometime, right? Charlotte extended her pay-per-view singles record to 16 wins from as many matches when she beat Bayley at the Royal Rumble. The Queen, whose run began when she knocked off Brie Bella and Sasha Banks at Battleground 2015, has only lost once during her 20 pay-per-view bouts, in a tag-team tussle at last year's Battleground, when she banded with Dana Brooke against Bayley and Banks.
Bayley pinched the Raw Women's Title from Charlotte on February 13 but will head into Milwaukee to defend it on the back of a pummelling from Nia Jax on Raw, and Charlotte claiming she only beat her for the title because of Banks jabbing her in the throat during the match.
Having lost to the Queen twice on Sunday nights - her Rumble reverse following a loss at Clash of Champions in September - Bayley will have to go some to make it third time lucky and deny Charlotte a heavenly 17.
Will any other titles switch hands?
Owens and Charlotte are not the only stars who will be defending belts, with Karl Anderson and Luke Gallows putting the Tag Team Titles on the line against Enzo Amore and Big Cass, and Neville being challenged for the Cruiserweight crown by fellow Englishman Jack Gallagher.
Cass pinned Gallows on Raw to gain momentum for his team and a first title triumph in either NXT or the main roster looks doable for The Realest Guys in the Room. Gallagher may have to wait a while, though, with Neville looking lethal between the ropes since he returned to action in December.
