Highlights coming up soon but here's home boss Neil Warnock, on a "much-needed" win...
CARDIFF 4-0 SUNDERLAND
FT: Chris Coleman endured a miserable return to the Cardiff City
Stadium as Sunderland were well beaten by Cardiff and remain bottom of the Sky
Bet Championship. Paterson grabbed a brace while Ralls and Pilkington put gloss on a scoreline. The sending off of Ndong at 1-0 was a key moment but Sunderland offered little going forward throughout. Tough times ahead for them but Cardiff march on.
GOAL! CARDIFF 4-0 SUNDERLAND (Pilkington, 90+3)
Cardiff have been hunting another - and they've got it. Wildshcut has looked a player since coming on and he breezes down the right flank into space. Pilkington is waiting in the middle and has the easy task of prodding home.
CARDIFF 3-0 SUNDERLAND
90: Four minutes added on here.
WATCH: PATERSON GOAL
This one made it 3-0 to Cardiff. Where were the Sunderland back four?
86: The home side are now winding down the clock, with Ralls at the heart of all of their progressive attacking play. He's been exceptional.
WATCH: RALLS CRACKER
This made it 2-0 to Cardiff - a goal worthy of lighting up any football match.
GOAL! CARDIFF 3-0 SUNDERLAND (Paterson, 80)
This is turning into a miserable homecoming for Chris Coleman.
Bennett tries his luck with a 30-yard free-kick. The wall blocks it but only to Paterson, who is about 12 yards out. Jones is caught napping and Paterson finds space to reverse a shot into the far corner. Game over.
CARDIFF 2-0 SUNDERLAND
77: SUB! Maja off - he's had a lonely afternoon up top. McManaman is on.
WATCH: NDONG RED
Was this worthy of a red card? See for yourself.....
72: Warnock is still geeing his team up from the sidelines. They look to have this won, but this is the Championship - a Sunderland goal would make things interesting.
69: CHANCE! Cardiff have looked threatening from every corner. And they create yet another opening. Sunderland win the first ball but it drops to Bamba about 15 yards out and he has time to steady himself. The finish isn't on point though - he blazes it over.
67: CROSSBAR! Out of nothing, Sunderland nearly get back in this match. A free-kick from the right is pinged into the middle by Oviedo. It finds Clarke-Salter and Manga battling for the ball...it skips off the defender and loops towards his own goal. With his goalkeeper beaten it crashes back off the bar and bounces to safety.
64: CHANCE! Wildschut gets involved instantly. He drives at Clarke-Salter and beats him. O'Shea nearly stops him but he bruises his way through to the by-line. He has Lohore in the middle and nearly finds him but Ruiter just about grabs on inside his six-yard box.
WATCH: OPENING GOAL
A lot has happened since the opener - but here it is. Paterson with the important goal.
60: SUB! Gooch is off for Sunderland. Asoro is on. They need a spark.
58: SUB! Debut for Wildschut. He's on for Mendez-Laing. Gets a huge reception from the home fans. He should revel against 10-men low on confidence.
GOAL! CARDIFF 2-0 SUNDERLAND (Ralls, 55)
They've got the killer second - and what a brilliant move and finish.
Sunderland force a set-piece and push men forward, but Cardiff clear down the left. Zohore out-runs Clarke-Salter down the left and plays a clever inside ball for the onrushing Ralls. He's still got plenty to do from 20 yards but connects perfectly with his left peg and the ball flies into the top corner. Splendid stuff.
CARDIFF 1-0 SUNDERLAND
53: Backs to the wall now for Sunderland, who are now defending for their lives. Cardiff hunting the second goal. A corner causes more problems as Morrison jumps with O'Shea. The ball deflects behind.
49: NDONG SENT OFF!! Sunderland down to 10-men. He caps a miserable performance with a silly tackle - whether it was a red card challenge though is debatable. Hoilett gets to a loose ball before Ndong who goes slightly over the ball and makes slight contact with Hoilett, who hits the deck. The players surround the referee and a red is brandished. Sunderland have capitulated.
GOAL!! CARDIFF 1-0 SUNDERLAND (Paterson, 46)
Sunderland go to sleep and you can't do that against a Neil Warnock team.
A corner is whipped in and Ruiter, who hasn't put a foot wrong up until now, comes daydreaming off his line and gets nowhere near the ball. Paterson jumps highest and heads home. Chris Coleman will be pulling his hair out.
CARDIFF 0-0 SUNDERLAND
46: SHOT! Cardiff start where they left off. Paterson smacks a low half-volley at goal which is palmed around the post by Ruiter.
45: Hello again. We are back. One change for Sunderland. Cattermole on. Wilson off.

HT: Cardiff didn't want half-time there. They ended the half strongly but couldn't find a way past Ruiter, who has been excellent. Sunderland have offered little but have competed all over the pitch. One goal may just win this. See you in 15.
45: One minute added on.
CHANCE! Cardiff coming on strong. After the winning the first ball, Mendez-Laing is alert to the second ball and strikes from 18 yards. Wilson gets a block on it and it deflects towards his own goal. O'Shea is there to hoof clear from about five yards.
44: CHANCE! From the corner, Morrison rises highest at the back post and sends a header back towards goal. Zohore is lurking and challenges with O'Shea. He wins the header but the ball loops just over the crossbar.
43: SAVE! Hoilett mimics his last effort and whips one towards the same corner....Ruiter is alive to it and scrambles across to help it around the post.
42: FREE-KICK! Ralls charges through the middle and gets clipped by Oviedo about 20 yards out. This is dead centre, another opportunity for Hoilett....
WATCH: HOILETT CHANCE
38: Cardiff try to work a chance from a throw down the right. Wilson breaks up the play on the by-line and Paterson goes down holding his face. No foul. He's up.
35: CLOSE!! Hoilett takes charge and whips a fine effort over the wall. Ruiter is at full-stretch and is getting nowhere near it...but the ball curls inches wide of the top corner. Hoilett falls to his knees - he thought it was in!
34: Scrappy spell, which will suit Sunderland. A long ball draws a foul from Browning on Paterson about 25 yards out. Good spot this for Cardiff. Hoilett, Ralls lining this up....
31: Ndong finds space on the corner of the box but plays a woeful pass inside to Gooch. He's been linked with a move to Watford but he's looked far from Premier League quality in the opening stages here.
29: Sunderland have slowed the game down, but are struggling to get up the pitch. Maja is pretty isolated up top as Cardiff press on, throwing balls in the box where possible.
WATCH: RUITER SAVE
This was a corker. Who needs Jordan Pickford...?
25: Sunderland need to gather themselves here. Cardiff are knocking. A ball in from the left causes panic in the back-line...Zohore is lurking but the ball bounces to safety.
23: SAVE!! Fantastic. A second ball drops to Ralls on the edge of the box and he controls a half-volley that pings towards the top corner. Ruiter flings himself towards it and turns it around the post with a fine one-handed save.
19: CHANCE! Ndong squanders possession in midfield and Cardiff break with their front three. Hoilett cuts the ball across the face and Ralls is there to meet it on the run from 15 yards. Poor finish. Straight at Ruiter.
17: More tenacious work from Gooch - this time down the left. He battles past Bamba but just runs out of pitch as he shapes to cross.
15: Crunching tackle by Wilson in midfield which triggers a counter. Gooch gets one-on-one with Bennett and beats him on the outside. His cross is cleared by Bamba. Positive signs for the visitors.
13: SHOT! Good counter by Sunderland. Maja spins a ball down the line for Oviedo - he has support but his cross is poor. Honeymoon recycles the ball but his effort from the edge of the box goes well wide.
10: SHOT! Browing moves forward from centre-back and it opens up for him. He doesn't look very comfortable though as he moves to within 25 yards of goal and he spoons a poor effort well over the crossbar.
8: Cardiff starting to press now. Oviedo gets chased down by Mendez-Laing down the right and the ball spins out for a corner. Ralls delivers and it's on the money again...O'Shea scrambles it away inside the six-yard box.
5: CHANCE! Paterson wins a soft foul off Wilson, which gives a chance for Cardiff to put a set-piece into the box from 35 yards. Ralls swing one in...Morrison rises at the back post but his header doesn't trouble Ruiter.
3: Slow start. The pitch doesn't look great and the ball seems hard to get under control. Credit to Sunderland, they've settled nicely with a couple of nice balls down the line for Maja to chase.
1: KICK-OFF! Here we go. Your weekend of football starts here. Cardiff in blue, Sunderland in red and white stripes.
