Celtic v Hearts: Erik Sviatchenko ruled out for six weeks ahead of Parkhead encounter
Saturday 5 August 2017 12:56, UK
Erik Sviatchenko will miss Celtic's Sky Live Scottish Premiership opener against Hearts on Saturday.
The Danish defender picked up a knee injury during Celtic's victory over Rosenborg on Wednesday night and joins team-mates Dedryck Boyata and Moussa Dembele on the sidelines ahead of the lunchtime kick-off at Parkhead.
Kristoffer Ajer, the 19-year-old defender, is a potential replacement for Sviatchenko. Boyata is out until September with a knee injury while striker Dembele recovers from a hamstring complaint.
Leigh Griffiths should start the fixture after shaking off a calf injury to feature against Rosenborg while Tom Rogic will be hoping for a starting spot after settling for a substitute spot midweek.
Meanwhile, Jon Daly will take charge of Hearts as interim manager and will hope Kyle Lafferty can continue his impressive start since his summer arrival which has seen the Northern Ireland international score four goals in four outings in the Scottish League Cup.
Hearts midfielder Jamie Walker has been left out of the squad to face Celtic after Daly decided Walker was not mentally ready to play amid interest from Rangers.
Full-back Liam Smith is suspended but Ashley Smith-Brown and Connor Randall could feature in Hearts' 18-man squad after both players joined the Tynecastle club on respective season-long loan deals.
