Brendan Rodgers says his Celtic side are relishing the chance to make history in Saturday's Scottish Cup final, live on Sky Sports.

The Hoops will seal a second successive domestic treble for the first time in Scottish football if they can beat Motherwell in the Hampden Park showdown.

While Rodgers - whose team beat the Steelmen in the League Cup final earlier in the season - expects another tough game against familiar opponents, he insists his own players are relishing the prospect of further glory.

"It's a game that we're looking forward to," Rodgers said. "I think it's a different feeling this time. Last year we had the unbeaten season in the league and the cups, and it was the first time the treble was won for a number of years.

"Those experiences help you. The players have been absolutely brilliant this season. One of things they've been very good at is that professional attitude and mentality.

"We know the magnitude of the game. It's a great chance for us, great opportunity and we'll prepare now for what'll be a tough game.

"We'll try to focus on performing well. Of course, the bigger picture of it gives you a chance and another opportunity to write another chapter in the wonderful history of this club. We've added to that story and we want to do that again at the weekend."

Motherwell have drawn twice with Celtic since losing 2-0 in their November cup clash, and midfielder Carl McHugh feels they have a real chance of upsetting the odds.

"We're really confident," the 25-year-old said. "We are working towards a game plan where we can go and beat Celtic.

"We can take a lot out of the games we have played (against) them this season. There wasn't a lot in the League Cup final and we can take positives out of that.

"We know we are going to have to be right at the top of our game to beat them but if we all do that and all come together then we are confident we can.

"We've beaten Aberdeen and Rangers in two semi-finals at Hampden so we have been there and won big games. But it's going to come down to what performance we put out on the day, we can't think of games gone by, we have to focus on Saturday."

Team news

Celtic goalkeeper Craig Gordon has won his race to be fit for the showdown. A knee complaint had kept the Parkhead No 1 out since last month's 5-0 romp over Rangers but he is now expected to reclaim his starting spot from understudy Scott Bain.

However, cup-tied defender Jack Hendry and the injured trio of Odsonne Edouard (hamstring), Nir Bitton (knee) and Jonny Hayes (broken leg) will miss the match, while loanee Charly Musonda has returned to parent club Chelsea.

Stephen Robinson will leave it late before deciding whether to include Peter Hartley in his squad.

The former Blackpool defender injured his foot against Hamilton late last year and has not played since. However, he returned to training this week in an attempt to win a place.

Andy Rose has shaken off the broken collarbone that has kept him out of late, but now has a worry over a calf strain. James Scott (broken toe) is also a doubt, but George Newell (fractured cheekbone), Craig Tanner (knee) and Ellis
Plummer (broken leg) are sure to miss the showpiece occasion.

Charlie's prediction

People might suggest it is a foregone conclusion but all the pressure is on Celtic. There is history on the line, with the opportunity to win back-to-back trebles for the first time.

They had been wiping the floor with everyone in their path, but it hasn't been as straight-forward this season and Motherwell are an awkward side and they'll attempt to disrupt Celtic's rhythm.

Odsonne Edouard has been Celtic's best player but it looks like he's going to miss out with a hamstring injury. He's a level up from the Scottish game and I'd be amazed if a few Premier League clubs haven't been looking at him.

That makes me suspect they only play Moussa Dembele up front on his own, but the man I expect to make the difference is Tom Rogic with his runs from midfield.

Cedric Kipre has been sent off in two of the meetings this season and he and Scott Brown will be queuing up to kick each other, so I think there will disciplinary issues along with plenty of goals.
