England v Turkey preview: Harry Kane and Jamie Vardy may start up front

England face Turkey on Sunday evening in their first warm-up fixture ahead of Euro 2016.

Roy Hodgson named his initial 26-man squad for the tournament in France on Monday, but the England manager has just this friendly at the Etihad Stadium in Manchester (kick-off 5.15pm) and Friday's against Australia to decide on his final 23 players.

England's Manchester United players - Marcus Rashford, Wayne Rooney and Chris Smalling - will not feature though, due to their involvement in Saturday's FA Cup final with Crystal Palace.

That means Hodgson is likely to pair Leicester's Jamie Vardy and Tottenham's Harry Kane in attack against Fatih Terim's side, who have also qualified for Euro 2016.

Meanwhile, the Liverpool contingent of Nathaniel Clyne, Adam Lallana, James Milner and Daniel Sturridge will meet up with the squad on Saturday, although they will also not play after their midweek involvement in the Europa League final loss to Sevilla.

One player who will certainly be involved, however, is Gary Cahill, with the Chelsea centre-back set to captain his country in Rooney's absence.

Cahill, who missed some training sessions this week due to an injection, is a shoo-in for the final 23 given he is one of only three out-and-out central defenders, but midfielders Jack Wilshere and Jordan Henderson have more to prove.

Harry Kane says England have the belief that they can win Euro 2016

"Jordan alongside Jack, I suppose, are the reasons why we've extended this time our squad from the usual 23 to 26," Hodgson said.

"We do need to assess them, we do need to be sure that if we're going to select them they will be the Jordan Henderson, the Jack Wilshere that we know - not players who are unfortunately recovering to be that player again.

"The other Liverpool players won't join us until Saturday morning, but I won't be considering them necessarily seriously to play in the game [on Sunday] because of course they're still recovering from Wednesday night effects.

Kane is looking forward to playing alongside Wayne Rooney at Euro 2016

"[Henderson] was obviously keen to do some training on Friday before that because he didn't play in Basel.

"And, of course, we're more than happy to have him with us, doing that training session, and any extra work he feels he needs to help him recover from injury we do here.

"It was very much joined-up thinking between us at the FA, Liverpool Football Club and Jordan himself."

Whoever is chosen to feature against Turkey will be part of the first England team to play a home match away from Wembley since 2007.

"We feel we have got good support in the country. We feel that the people are behind us and wishing us well," Hodgson said

"Wouldn't it be nice if we could play some of the preparation games, if we are playing three, to take them maybe around the country and show off our football?

"Maybe some really big England fans don't always get the chance to see the game at Wembley and I'm very grateful that the FA accepted that idea and promoted it.

"I think it's going to be a really interesting occasion playing in Manchester and Sunderland, before the final game at Wembley."

Could Harry Kane and Jamie Vardy start together for England at Euro 2016?

Apart from those players who are not featuring due to their club commitments, the Three Lions have a fully-fit squad to select from.

The visitors are without Arda Turan, Nuri Sahin and Burak Yilmaz because of their duties with Barcelona, Borussia Dortmund and Beijing Guoan respectively.

Meanwhile, young Nordsjaelland wide man Emre Mor may earn his first cap for the Turks.

Terry Venables says Roy Hodgson has what it takes to guide England to a successful tournament at Euro 2016

England will play their first game in Manchester since February 2007, when they lost 1-0 against Spain in a friendly.

England's last meeting with Turkey ended in a 0-0 draw, in what was the final game of England's Euro 2004 qualifying campaign.

Jamie Vardy has scored in each of his last two games for England, including in his first start on home soil last time out.

All four of England's goals in 2016 have been scored by either a Leicester City player or a Tottenham Hotspur player (Vardy with two, Harry Kane and Eric Dier with one each).
