Espanyol 0-0 Levante: Visitors grind out point at RCDE Stadium
Friday 13 October 2017 22:56, UK
Levante picked up their first point in three games after holding Espanyol to a goalless draw at RCDE Stadium on Friday night.
After an opening 45 minutes which saw both sides spurn several half-chances to take the lead, Espanyol stepped up a gear in the second period and will feel they did enough to have claimed their third La Liga victory of the campaign.
They should have taken the lead just after the hour but, after Gerard Moreno's header was blocked on the line, Leo Baptistao somehow contrived to fire the rebound over from six yards out.
Espanyol players were left with their heads in their hands again in the 75th minute. Sergi Darder saw his deflected shot come back off the crossbar and the unmarked Sergio Garcia's follow-up header was superbly tipped behind by Raul Fernandez-Cavada.
The home side thought they had finally got their just reward in the 83rd minute when Gerard Moreno headed home a left-wing cross, but his team's celebrations were cut short after the referee whistled for an infringement.
