Yeovil booked their place in the Johnstone's Paint Trophy Southern Section semi-finals with a penalty shootout victory over Gillingham at the Priestfield Stadium.

After both sides converted their first four spot-kicks following a 1-1 draw in 90 minutes, Rory Donnelly fired over for the Gills and Connor Roberts converted to send the League Two strugglers through at the expense of the League One high-flyers.

Town, who sit 44 places below the Gills in the Football League, dominated the first half.

Omar Sowunmi headed wide from Wes Fodgen's deep cross, Shaun Jeffers chipped into the side netting and Ben Tozer hit the bar with a 50-yard effort all in the opening five minutes.

Harry Cornick's fourth goal of the season gave them the lead in the 13th minute, as the on-loan midfielder fired into the roof of the net after charging through the Gillingham defence.

Unbeaten at the Priestfield since April, the Gills - Southern Section finalists last season - then levelled two minutes before the break when Bradley Garmston curled in from an acute angle.

Cornick should have scored his second of the night six minutes into the second half, but fired over from six yards.

Town defender Alex Lacey also missed from close range when unmarked in the area.

Goalkeeper Chris Weale made a brilliant save to deny Gills skipper Doug Loft in the final minute of stoppage time to take the game to penalties.
