Liverpool v Rubin Kazan preview: Jurgen Klopp makes Anfield debut
Thursday 22 October 2015 20:25, UK
Jurgen Klopp will make his Anfield bow when Liverpool host Rubin Kazan in the Europa League on Thursday (kick-off 8.05pm).
The German oversaw his first match in charge on Saturday as the Reds drew 0-0 at Tottenham in the Premier League.
Klopp, who led Borussia Dortmund to the Champions League final in 2013, will now be hoping to kick-start the Reds' European campaign.
So far in Group B they have drawn against Bordeaux and FC Sion, but will start as strong favourites against Rubin, who have also changed their manager recently.
The Russian club have brought in Vately Chaly on a temporary basis after a poor start to the season that sees them just above the relegation places.
They are bottom of Group B after losing their opener to FC Sion and then drawing with Bordeaux.
Team news
Striker Daniel Sturridge will not be risked after missing Sunday's draw at Tottenham with a knee injury, and will be held back for Sunday's visit of Southampton.
Forwards Christian Benteke and Roberto Firmino could be on the bench after recovering from injury, along with defender Dejan Lovren.
Igor Portnyagin is likely to lead the line for the visitors while full-back Oleg Kuzmin could be a threat after scoring twice at the weekend.
Opta stats
This is the first European meeting between the two sides.
The Reds have lost two of their last three meetings with Russian sides, winning the most recent 3-1 against Zenit in February 2013. That wasn't enough to make it past the last 32 stage as they lost on away goals.
Liverpool have kept just one clean sheet in their last seven European games at Anfield (1-0 v Besiktas in February 2015).
Rubin Kazan are yet to taste victory on English soil, losing two and drawing one of three previous trips.
Liverpool's only home defeat since the introduction of the current Europa League format came at the hands of Udinese in October 2012; winning ten and drawing four at Anfield since February 2010.
