Manchester City will be hoping history repeats itself after holding Lyon to a 0-0 draw in the first leg of their Women's Champions League semi-final.

The two sides met at the same stage of the competition last season, with Lyon winning 3-2 on aggregate despite losing the second leg 1-0 at home.

But a similar result this time around will be enough to see Nick Cushing's side into the final after a superb performance from Man City goalkeeper Karen Bardsley made sure of a stalemate at the Academy Stadium.

Bardsley, who was one of three changes to the side which beat Sunderland in the WSL on Wednesday, fully justified her selection with a faultless display of handling as Lyon sought a vital away goal.

And the 33-year-old kept her best save until last, palming away a close-range header from Amandine Henry in the 90th minute, with Griedge M'Bock Bathy only able to fire the loose ball into the side netting from a narrow angle.

City's clearest chance came in the 22nd minute when Nikita Parris found Melissa Lawley just inside the area, but her shot was tipped over by Lyon goalkeeper Sarah Bouhaddi.
