Borussia Monchengladbach brought an end to Bayern Munich's unbeaten record this season with an emphatic 3-1 win which keeps them unbeaten in 10 games under Andre Schubert.

Oscar Wendt put the Foals in front 10 minutes into the second half and two goals in as many minutes from Lars Stindl and Fabian Johnson put them surprisingly in control against a side who had won 13 and drawn one of their 14 previous league games this season.

Franck Ribery pulled a goal back on his return from injury, but for the first time in his Bayern career, he was on the losing side despite scoring as Gladbach confirmed their status as Bayern's bogey team.

Raffael gave Manuel Neuer some light work after just a minute with the first shot of what was to be an entertaining game at the Borussia Park Stadion.

Thomas Muller should have done better than to shoot straight at Yann Sommer with Bayern's first real opening of the game, which came after 15 minutes, while Medhi Benatia also made things easy for the Swiss goalkeeper with his weak header from Arturo Vidal's cross.

Robert Lewandowski was also denied by Sommer, who was beaten on the rebound by Kingsley Coman, but the post came to the Gladbach goalkeeper's rescue as Bayern started to gain the upper hand.

Nico Elvedi, making his starting debut for Gladbach, showed no nerves as he picked up possession in midfield and progressed before releasing a shot which took a deflection to complicate things for Neuer.

It was a reminder that Gladbach were as much in the game as Bayern were, and it was they who took the lead less than 10 minutes into the second half when Wendt's initial pass to Rafael came back to the Swedish full-back off a combination of Rafael and Mahmoud Dahoud, and he chose not to pass but to place his shot into the far corner of Neuer's goal at the second time of asking.

Julian Korb could have doubled Gladbach's lead when he had only Neuer to beat, but his shot clipped the Bayern goalkeeper's heel to loop onto the crossbar.

The second Gladbach goal arrived moments later, though, with Stindl turning the 19-year-old Elvedi's header past Neuer from eight yards.

It was three just two minutes later when Munich-born Johnson was picked out by Korb's sweeping ball forward, with no Bayern defender in sight.

The former 1860 Munich player was unable to get the ball fully under control, but he found his composure just in time to place his shot to the left of Neuer and into the bottom corner.

On a rare afternoon to forget for Bayern, there was one bright moment to come when Ribery came on for his first appearance of the season, and his 300th for Bayern.

He marked it with a goal too, picking the ball up from Vidal's touch to beat Sommer, but it was too little too late for Bayern, who were beaten for the first time in the Bundesliga this season.
