David Villa's embarrassing miss from the penalty spot came back to haunt New York City FC on Sunday as Orlando fought back for a 2-2 draw in MLS.
With hosts New York leading 2-0, Spanish striker Villa had the perfect chance to make the game safe in the 70th minute, but slipped just as he was about to shoot, hitting the ball high and wide of the Orlando goal.
Frederic Brillant scored for New York in the 42nd minute and Villa grabbed his ninth of the season in the 66th minute, taking a pass from Andrea Pirlo and then chipping over Orlando goalkeeper Joe Bendik.
But Orlando were quick to capitalize on Villa's miss as Julio Baptista pulled a goal back two minutes later, and Kevin Molino headed the equalizer four minutes into stoppage time at Yankee Stadium.
New York have won just once in eight home games this season and were throttled 7-0 by derby rivals the Red Bulls last week.
Former Barcelona, Atletico Madrid and Valencia striker Villa has scored nine of 11 penalty kicks in two MLS seasons.
