Wing-back Ryan Fredericks is set for a Bristol City exit less than a month after signing from Tottenham.
The 22-year-old arrived at Ashton Gate for an undisclosed fee on a three-year contract on August 6 and will be joining an unnamed London side.
Cotterill said: "Ryan will be leaving us. It only happened late last night. He's leaving us for personal reasons and will be joining another London club.
"He's having a medical (on Saturday) and will join the club for the same fee that we paid for him.
"We wish him good luck with that. We understand, sometimes things happen. We're one light on the bench today, but you can only use three substitutes anyway."
Fredericks, born in north London, started in four of City's first five games of the season in the Championship.
He started his professional career with Spurs in 2009 and spent loan spells with Brentford, Millwall and Middlesbrough before his move to Bristol at the start of August.
