Former Sunderland boss Gus Poyet is to become the new manager of Greek side AEK Athens.
The 47-year-old had been linked with the vacant post at Aston Villa but has now agreed terms with the team from the Greek capital.
On Thursday the club's website carried a statement under a banner reading: 'The Gus Poyet era at AEK FC begins.'
The statement read: "AEK FC announces agreement with the Uruguayan manager Gustavo Poyet until the summer of 2016.
"The new manager will sign his contract tomorrow."
AEK currently sit third in the Super League under interim head coach Stelios Manolas.
Following a hugely successful playing career, Poyet worked as an assistant manager at Swindon, Leeds and Tottenham.
He then managed Brighton from November 2009 until June 2013, taking them to the Championship play-off semi-finals in his final season.
He took charge at Sunderland in October 2013 and led them to the League Cup final and Premier League safety that season.
However, he was fired in March this year with the Black Cats again in danger of relegation, although they ended up surviving once more.
