Suspended FIFA president Sepp Blatter is undergoing checks for a stress-related health issue.

Blatter was suspended from his role at the top of football's world governing body last month.

Switzerland's Radio 1 reported earlier on Friday that Blatter had been through a 'medical incident' last week, and his lawyer Richard Cullen said later that he had been to hospital for a check-up, and would return home 'soon'.

Blatter's spokesman Klaus Stohlker said: "He is under medical evaluation. He has been told to rest for the next five days. It is nothing dramatic. The doctors expect him to be back around Thursday or Friday of next week."

"He is under tremendous pressure from so many sides and perhaps this is a little bit difficult for a man who is not the youngest."

Stohlker also confirmed Blatter would not be attending an interview with Swiss television that was due to take place next week.

The 79-year-old has been in charge of FIFA for 18 years but announced he would stand down earlier this year after a series of corruption scandals.

Blatter's replacement will be confirmed in February, with seven candidates lined up for the election.
