Jose Mourinho appeared at a football match for the first time since his sacking by Chelsea when he attended Saturday's lunchtime Championship game between Brighton and Middlesbrough at the Amex.

The Portuguese manager's representatives had earlier released a statement in which they said he would "not be taking a sabbatical" following his dismissal by Chelsea and "is already looking forward".

The statement added: "Because of his love of football, you will see Jose at football grounds working and supporting friends.

"He will not be attending any high-profile games because he wants to discourage any speculation about his future."

But while the 52-year-old kept away from a Premier League fixture, he appeared in the stands at the top-of-the-table Championship clash between Brighton and Boro, who are managed by Aitor Karanka, his No 2 when he was in charge at Real Madrid.

Mourinho led Chelsea to the Premier League title last season, the third time they have claimed the prize during his two stints at the club.

However, the Blues have endured a far more tumultuous 2015/16 campaign so far and Mourinho was fired on Thursday in the light of Monday's 2-1 loss at Leicester, which left the club just a point above the drop zone.

Sky Sports News understands that Roma have made contact with Mourinho but he declined to talk with the club.

The Serie A club are expected to part company with Rudi Garcia during the winter break.
