Manchester United have recalled striker Will Keane from his loan at Preston North End.
Keane joined the Championship club on a season-long loan, and had scored two goals in 22 appearances but he will now return to Old Trafford.
United have struggled for goals this season, scoring 22 in their 19 Premier League games - only six teams have scored fewer goals in the top flight so far this campaign.
Wayne Rooney and Anthony Martial have each scored seven goals in all competitions, while Juan Mata and Martial are the club's joint top Premier League scorers with four goals.
Louis van Gaal sold Robin van Persie and Javier Hernandez in the summer and has since loaned James Wilson to Brighton meaning 22-year-old Keane could get a chance to impress in the coming weeks - starting with Saturday's clash with Swansea.
"[It happened] in the last 24 hours or so. United felt they needed an extra body around them," Preston boss Simon Grayson told Sky Sports News HQ.
"Obviously it's disappointing to lose Will. In the last few weeks he's been finding his feet with us. But that is what happens when you get loan players.
"We accept it. We will probably go into the market over the next few days and weeks to bring in reinforcements. Hopefully he will do well for Manchester United."
Keane has made just one appearance for United, a five-minute cameo as a subsititute in a 3-2 defeat at Blackburn in December 2011.
Asked if he felt Keane might be the answer to United's goalscoring problems, he said: "It's a big step up. But he's played regularly for us, he's fit, so time will tell."
