Brendan Rodgers insists whichever club he manages next must be in with a shot at winning a league title.

The 42-year-old has spent the past three months resting away from the game after being sacked by Liverpool in October.

Rodgers has received a number of offers from at home and abroad but he is biding his time for the right job.

Speaking as a guest on Goals on Sunday, Rodgers said: "I would consider going abroad.

"I've had a few offers both at home and abroad, but I want to find the time to recover well and make sure the motivation is renewed when I do back in.

"It could be anywhere as long as it's exciting and the club want to work together.

"For me, wherever you go, you have to go to win (the league). Whatever country it is, you want to be in with a chance of winning it. Having nearly done it at Liverpool, that sort of thing really drives you.

"I've taken a bit of time out, travelling with family, and I'll look forward to the next challenge. Hopefully, come the summertime, I can get back into it."

Rodgers came close to winning the Premier League in his second season with the club but they struggled to maintain it last season and finished sixth, and he eventually lost his job after a difficult start to the current term.

But he said: "I had a brilliant experience at Liverpool - it's an incredible football club.

"I'm very proud to have had the opportunity to manage such a great club. Liverpool is one of the great institutions of the world.

"The history certainly inspired me. I was in no hurry to leave Swansea but when a club like Liverpool comes in for you, it's very difficult to say no."
