Chris Smalling hoping to feature for Man United v Arsenal

Chris Smalling hopes to return from injury in time to face Arsenal in Manchester United's Super Sunday game at Old Trafford.
The England centre-back was forced to miss Thursday's 5-1 defeat of FC Midtjylland in the Europa League after injuring his shoulder in the FA Cup win over Shrewsbury three days earlier, having scored his side's opening goal in a 3-0 win.
But Smalling could return to action against the club he supported as a boy to offer a welcome boost to United manager Louis van Gaal, who is currently trying to manage a lengthy injury list.
"Touch wood, that carries on," Smalling said, when asked about his impressive performances this season.
"I was disappointed to miss the other night, but I'm hoping to be okay to play this game.
"I've not really done anything differently to the other lads but, probably from about halfway through last season, I got on a good run in the team and I've just tried to carry that on from there. Long may it continue."
The 26-year-old fondly recalled the remarkable 8-2 defeat of the Gunners in 2011 and last season's 2-1 win at the Emirates Stadium ahead of Sunday's match.
Their last match-up ended in a 3-0 win for Arsenal on October 4 but Smalling feels they normally give a good account of themselves against Arsene Wenger's side.
"I always look forward to these games," Smalling told United's matchday programme.
"It's no secret that I was an Arsenal supporter growing up, so this fixture is even bigger for me and especially given it involves two of the biggest teams in the country.
"I hope I can step out onto the field."
