Adam Johnson has arrived at court to be sentenced

Former England and Sunderland player Adam Johnson has arrived at Bradford Crown Court for sentencing, where it emerged he has been stripped of his 12 England caps.

Johnson faces up to 10 years in prison after was found guilty of one count of sexual activity with a child on March 2. He was cleared of one further count of sexual activity with a child.

Prior to the trial, Johnson pleaded guilty to two other charges of kissing and grooming the same girl, who was 15 at the time of the offences.

Johnson arrived around 9.45am on Thursday and the hearing begin around 10.30am, and the court was told that Johnson has the intention to appeal against his conviction.

Three weeks ago, Judge Jonathan Rose warned Johnson that an appropriate sentence would be somewhere between four and 10 years. The maximum sentence for sexual activity with a child is 14 years.

Judge Rose told Johnson he will be going to HM Prison Leeds at Armley in West Yorkshire and he will also be on the sex offenders register for the rest of his life.

On Wednesday, Durham Police took action against a man who was allegedly harassing Johnson's teenage victim online.

Sky Sports News HQ understands the force issued a harassment warning to Steven Knox, 29 - the former partner of Johnson's sister Faye - after Johnson's victim was put under a "considerable deal of distress and harassment".

A Facebook page that has nearly 5,000 followers has been set up in support of Johnson.
