Matty Taylor, Kemar Roofe and Ricky Holmes shortlisted for Sky Bet Football League 2 Player of the Year award

Matty Taylor, Kemar Roofe and Ricky Holmes have been shortlisted for the 2016 Sky Bet Football League Two Player of the Year award.

Bristol Rovers forward Taylor, 26, has earned his nomination after scoring 26 goals for the Pirates to spearhead their promotion push.

Roofe, 23, has made his mark with Oxford United this season after making a permanent move from West Brom last summer and has netted 23 goals from midfield.

Winger Holmes, 28, has played a key role in Northampton Town's charge to promotion with a series of dominant displays and 10 goals.

All the League Two managers were asked to list their top five players from this season in order, with the votes added up and the overall top three forming the shortlist.  

The winner will be announced at The Football League awards in Manchester on Sunday April 17.

Football League chief executive Shaun Harvey said: "It has been another fantastic season in Sky Bet League 2 and the three players on the shortlist have been pivotal figures in their respective club's push for promotion.

Other award categories include the Young Player of the Year, the Johnstone's Paint Community Club of the Year, Capital One Supporter of the Year, the Mitre Goal of the Year and the Sir Tom Finney Award.

For the first time this year the awards will also recognise the best 11 players and manager from across the 72 clubs, with the 'Football Manager Team of the Season' to be announced on the night.
