Tottenham midfielder Dele Alli says he has had to put up with jokes from his team-mates following his embarrassing open goal miss against Stoke on Monday.

Alli scored twice as Spurs won 4-0 at the Britannia but missed a golden opportunity to register his second hat-trick for the club after hitting the post midway through the second half.

And, despite producing another impressive display for manager Mauricio Pochettino, Alli says he received stick from his team-mates, including fellow England international Eric Dier.

"It's one of those moments and I don't know how I missed it," said the 20 year-old.

"Thankfully I scored two and we won. Hopefully it will be forgotten, but I'm sure it won't be. Eric's already got on to me about it as soon as I walked in, so I'm sure there will be more to come.

"He just showed me a video that someone sent him on Twitter so I'm sure I'll get a lot more stick for it."

Alli's brace against Stoke moved the midfielder onto double figures for Premier League goals this campaign. And the former MK Dons player, who joined Spurs for £5m last summer, says he is hoping to score even more next season.

"When I signed, my target was to get 10 starts. But then after I got a run of games, I wanted to get 10 goals and happily I've reached that target," he said.

"Now I can set a benchmark for myself for next season and I've got to set it even higher."

Alli has been shortlisted for the PFA's Young Player of the Year after an impressive first season in the Premier League.

And the midfielder, who was playing in League One under a year ago, says he is still coming to terms with his rapid rise in English football.

"I remember I was there last year for the League One team of the year and saw Harry Kane win it," he said.

"I can't say I imagine myself winning it this year. Even to be nominated is a great feeling for me and it's a been great year."
