Atletico Madrid kept up the pressure on rivals Barcelona and Real Madrid in the race for La Liga title with a 1-0 home win over a stubborn Malaga side.

Angel Correa settled a difficult game for Atletico five minutes after coming off the bench, as his shot from the edge of the area was deflected into the far corner.

Diego Simeone watched the second half from the stands. Moments before the interval a ball was thrown on the pitch from the Atletico technical area while Malaga set off on a counter attack.

Diego Simeone was sent to the stands during Atletico Madrid's 1-0 win over Malaga after a bizarre incident

Referee Antonio Mateu Lahoz asked Simeone who had lobbed the ball on and sent the coach off after not getting an answer.

The victory was a fifth on the trot in La Liga for Atletico, and as well as keeping them flying high domestically, tees them up nicely for their Champions League semi-final first leg against Bayern Munich in midweek.

They then face Rayo Vallecano (home), Levante (away) and Celta Vigo (home) in their final three games of the season.
