Bournemouth defender Adam Smith has signed a new contract to stay at the Vitality Stadium until 2020.

The 25-year-old right back, who joined permanently from Tottenham in 2014 having had a loan spell at the Cherries three years earlier, has made 36 appearances in all competitions for Bournemouth this season.

The former England Under-21 international scored twice for Eddie Howe's men, including a contender for the club's goal of the season, in the 3-3 draw against Everton in November.

"The club have given me a long contract which shows that they want me for the long run, so I am glad that I can see my future at Bournemouth for a long time," Smith told the club's website.

"I am settled down here, I get along with all of the lads and the gaffer knows me really well, so it was a no-brainer really."

Chief executive Neill Blake added: "It's great to be able to reward Adam with this new deal.

"He has shown this year just how important he can be for us, and we believe there is still plenty more to come from him.
