Republic of Ireland assistant boss Roy Keane says he is very happy with his current job but is planning to return to club management at some point.

Keane and manager Martin O'Neill are currently preparing the squad for their Euro 2016 opener against Sweden on Monday.

And the management duo, plus the rest of the coaching staff, have agreed to remain in place for the upcoming World Cup qualifying campaign.

Keane, who has been courted by Celtic in the recent past, told reporters: "I said all along that I had to wait to see what the manager's plans were.

"Things fell into place over the last few days and he has decided to stay on. He wanted me to be part of it and I didn't really hesitate.

"I'm happy to stay on. I've really enjoyed the job with the manager, the staff, the players and the FAI. It has been really enjoyable.

"It's been tough - we had a tough old group and tough play-offs. I'm happy to stay on for another couple of years.

"With the club stuff, I'm 44 years of age, so there is plenty of time for that. I am keen to get back into it - and when I said short term, I mean in the next few years, not the next few weeks."

Asked if he had any concerns about the club offers drying up at some point, Keane added: "No, I'm pretty confident in what I'm trying to do and working with the Irish team is a pretty good job.

"Actually, it's a brilliant job and I've really enjoyed it. I'm sure that other stuff will fall into place.

"I've had offers, but nothing that has rocked my boat to leave the Irish job."

Keane was less open about whether there was an escape clause in his new contract, adding: "I think what's written in my contract is none of your business."
