Eric Dier wants England to take the positives from their performance despite drawing 1-1 with Russia in their Euro 2016 opener.

Roy Hodgson's side put in a promising performance with Dier scoring a superb free-kick to put the Three Lions in front in the 73rd minute.

But it was not enough to secure all three points as Vasili Berezutski scored a stoppage time header as Russia snatched a point.

Despite the disappointment of conceding a late goal, Dier has backed England to bounce back for their next game against Wales on Thursday.

"Obviously it's disappointing because we were so close to an important and big win in our first game," Dier said."I thought it would have been well deserved.

"Our emotions went from high to low pretty quickly, but this is tournament football and we've got more games to look forward to.

"We've got to pick ourselves up and look forward to the next game because this game is behind us now.

"There's nothing we can do about it but take lots of positives from it."

Dier, who had not attempted a single shot from a free-kick in 65 Premier League games, scored the second goal of his England career, curling a free-kick past Igor Akinfeev to give his side the lead.

The goal sparked wild celebrations from the England players and fans and the Spurs midfielder described the moment as one of his best in football.

However, he would have swapped it all to hold onto the three points.

"It's probably one of the best moments I've had in football," Dier added.

"It was a fantastic moment to celebrate with our fans, who I thought were fantastic in the stadium.

"Obviously it's more important to have won. I'd have taken a win with anyone else scoring than me scoring and drawing.

"I'm happy for that but obviously disappointed we couldn't see out the win."
