French police carried out a controlled explosion and evacuated a restaurant outside the Stade de France ahead of France's Euro 2016 quarter-final against Iceland.

Supporters reported on social media hearing a loud bang around 5.30pm close to the ground, with reports that it was carried out on a suspicious vehicle.

Sky Sports News HQ's chief news reporter Kaveh Solkehkol subsequently reported that the 'Balyann' restaurant outside turnstile C of the Stade de France was evacuated because of a possible suspicious package.

The alert has since been resolved and the restaurant and the road, which was the scene of two suicide bombings last November, re-opened.

Kaveh Solkekol said: "I'm standing outside a police cordon outside turnstile C, one of the main entrances into the stadium, on a main road that has about 20-30 bars and restaurants along it.

"What is significant about this road is that it was where two suicide bombers blew themselves up last November. The situation is that, about 20 minutes ago, police started moving everyone away from the Balyann restaurant and started moving in.

"About 30 policemen entered the restaurant and everyone was evacuated, and they were each very thoroughly searched as they came out. They've were led down a side street and were not being allowed to leave - about 100 to 200 supporters.

"I think the situation is that there was a suspicious package inside this restaurant and the police were reacting to it; not taking any chances. My instincts are telling me that the situation was not very serious, because police allowed us to be within 15 metres or so of the restaurant.

"But some supporters were getting quite agitated. We are right by the Stade de France."

France versus Iceland, who beat England to qualify, is due to kick-off at 8pm UK time.
