Turkish club Fenerbahce have confirmed they have begun talks with Liverpool defender Martin Skrtel.

The Slovakia captain, who enjoyed an impressive Euro 2016 campaign, has fallen out of favour under Liverpool boss Jurgen Klopp.

The emergence of Joe Gomez as a Klopp favourite and the arrival of new signing Joel Matip means Skrtel appears to be surplus to requirements.

The centre-back has made 320 appearances for the Reds in eight seasons but last season he appeared just 27 times in 63 games.

Turkish media have reported that Fenerbahce - who confirmed talks are underway in a brief statement on their website - will need to pay around £5m for Skrtel's services.
