Find out why a group of Premier League referees are taking part in a 1,000-mile journey

Two top Premier League referees are among a number of officials taking part in a 1,000-mile cycle ride for charity.

Martin Atkinson and Jon Moss have been joined by a team of 'domestiques' as they take in all 20 Premier League teams over the next nine days.

The group started in the sunshine of Watford early on Tuesday morning but by the time the reached their fifth destination - Chelsea's home at Stamford Bridge - the great British summer had kicked in and waterproofs and brollies were the order of the day.

The 'Whistle Stop Tour', raising money for the Jane Tomlinson Appeal and Yorkshire Young Achievers Foundation, also took in Spurs, Arsenal, West Ham and Crystal Palace before heading to the Hampshire town of Hook for a well deserved stopover rest.

Wednesday sees the team, which includes referees assistants and staff at the LMA, move on to Southampton and Bournemouth and over the next week they head north before concluding their epic journey at Sunderland on July 20.

Speaking to Sky Sports News HQ, referees chief Mike Riley praised every member of the party for their efforts in negotiating London traffic, horizontal rain and the sores which come from hours in the saddle.
