Chelsea striker Dominic Solanke scored as England beat France 2-1 in their European Under-19 Championship opener in Heidenheim, Germany.
Solanke's effort and a Clement Michelin own goal gave Aidy Boothroyd's side a 2-0 lead inside the first nine minutes of the game.
Michelin turned a Solanke cross into his own net before the Chelsea youngster converted Sheyi Ojo's through-ball with a calm finish.
Jean-Kevin Augustin, who almost reduced the deficit on the 20-minute mark did scored moments later with an acrobatic finish to make it 2-1.
France pressed hard for an equaliser in the second half and goalkeeper Freddie Woodman was forced to tip a shot from Michelin onto his own bar on 62 minutes.
Tammy Abraham almost added a third for England only to see France goalkeeper Paul Bernardoni block his effort with a low save.
But the two early goals proved enough for England to take all three points from their opening Group B encounter.
