Former German FA president Wolfgang Niersbach has received a one year ban from all football-related activity following an investigation into his conduct by the FIFA Ethics Committee.

The committee, chaired by Alan Sullivan, concluded Niersbach, a current FIFA executive committee member, failed to report findings about possible misconduct concerning the award of the 2006 World Cup to Germany, including potential breaches of the FIFA Code of Ethics (FCE).

They concluded that the conduct of Niersbach constituted a breach of article 18 (Duty of disclosure, cooperation and reporting) and article 19 (Conflicts of interest) of the FCE.

However, the FIFA Ethics Committee confirmed investigators have not yet looked into possible breaches of the ethics code "in relation to possible acts of bribery and/or corruption" but only Niersbach's awareness of incidents and failure to report them in a "timely manner".

Proceedings were brought against Niersbach in May following an investigation conducted by Dr Cornel Borbely into potential breaches.

Niersbach resigned as German Football Federation president in November, but retained his elected positions on the top decision-making bodies at both FIFA and UEFA.
