Jamie Carragher insists Liverpool's defence is still a big problem after their 2-0 defeat against Burnley.

Jurgen Klopp's side came unstuck at Turf Moor as Sam Vokes and Andre Gray struck to hand the newly-promoted side their first Premier League victory of the season.

Liverpool started the season with an impressive victory at Arsenal but still conceded three goals on their way to three points at the Emirates Stadium.

And Carragher thinks Klopp's defence is still a major concern that has not been addressed.

"The defence is a big problem," Carragher told Sky Sports. "It was a big problem under Brendan Rodgers and it doesn't look like it has been rectified.

"Klopp's had a summer now and looked at where he needs to strengthen but the big-money buys have been at the other end of the pitch.

"Don't forget Liverpool still conceded three goals last weekend. Defensively again they were poor.

"It was a different kind of defending as well for long spells of the game they didn't really have to defend too much within the game. There were a lot of counter-attacks and plenty of possession, maybe the opposite of last week and they couldn't deal with it."

"Gray had Ragner Klaven and Dejan Lovren every time he went into the channels," the former Liverpool defender added. "Every time the ball went down the sides he was causing them problems and the killer goal is the second because it makes it very difficult against a team like Burnley, who are so good defensively."

Klopp has already brought in centre-back Klavan this summer but Carragher thinks Liverpool are still short in the defensive positions as the transfer deadline approaches.

"It still looks like they are lacking defensively and even in the holding midfield position," he said.

"Jordan Henderson is not a defensive midfield player and Emre Can is the only one in the squad that does play there because it looks like Lucas is surplus to requirements.

"You can talk about left-back as well because James Milner played there at Burnley. They are still short. Whether they go into the market again with the Benteke money between now and August 31 remains to be seen."
