Former Celtic midfielder Murdo MacLeod says Moussa Dembele will take confidence from his Old Firm hat-trick

Murdo MacLeod believes Celtic will be full of confidence when they travel to face Barcelona after their Old Firm win on Saturday.

Brendan Rodgers' side head to the Nou Camp on Tuesday for the opening round of group fixtures in the Champions League against the Spanish title holders on the back of a 5-1 win over Rangers.

And MacLeod, who played for Celtic from 1978-1987, says his former side will be on a high going into the match but does not expect Rodgers to be quite as attack-minded against Barcelona.

"I don't think he will be as offensive but he will get forward, they'll not just be sitting in and trying to defend for 90 minutes because that's not the way Celtic play football," he told Sky Sports News HQ.

"Celtic players will be enjoying the highlight of yesterday, scoring five goals, they will all be confident and thinking 'we can get forward here, we can score goals' so I think that is so important."

MacLeod also sang the praises of summer signing Moussa Dembele, who hit a hat-trick on Saturday after being called up to replace the injured Leigh Griffiths.

"Now he's scored a hat-trick in an Old Firm match - that puts him way up there, people will be talking about it all the time and that will give him great confidence," he said.

"I think he is a strong player, a quick player, good technique, he can score goals and he can handle pressure. He is a striker who possibly thought on Friday that he wasn't going to be playing in the game; with Leigh Griffiths being injured he gets his chance and what a chance he's taken."
