Leicester midfielder Danny Drinkwater insists they have the quality to try and match the European achievements of East Midlands rivals Nottingham Forest.
Forest won their one and only domestic league title in 1978-79 before going on to win the European Cup in the following two seasons.
Having won their maiden Premier League title last season, Leicester face Club Brugge in Belgium in their first-ever Champions League fixture on Wednesday, with Drinkwater keen for them to try and emulate Forest's achievements.
"I am not going to say we can't (match Forest). I'd be daft if I said we can't win it," said the England international.
"I think everybody would have thought we couldn't win the Premier League and we did it.
"If we are playing to prove people wrong, then perfect. Playing in the Champions League [means] the club has come a very long way. We are definitely not going in to make up the numbers."
Leicester - who have been drawn in Champions League Group G along with Porto and FC Copenhagen - lie 16th in the Premier League following a disappointing start to the season.
But Drinkwater is not unduly concerned by their domestic form and is keen for the Foxes to enjoy an extended run in Europe.
"It is the club's first time in the Champions League, we don't want it to be the first and the last. We are going to look to show them what we are made of," Drinkwater added.
"It is a big opportunity for the team and individuals. Hopefully we can turn it around by then."
