Andre Silva notched a first-half hat-trick as Portugal strolled to a 6-0 win against the Faroe Islands in Torshavn.
Silva punished sloppy defending from the hosts with a 12th-minute strike and 22nd-minute header before completing his treble by adding a side-footed effort eight minutes prior to the break.
Cristiano Ronaldo then got in on the act in the 65th minute, cracking the ball in from the edge of the box, and Portugal's second 6-0 triumph in just a few days was wrapped up in stoppage time by goals from substitute Joao Moutinho and Joao Cancelo.
However, Portugal are chasing Switzerland in Group B as the Swiss eventually got past a stubborn Andorra side to go top of Group B thanks to a 2-1 win at Estadi Nacional.
The opener came from the penalty spot after Admir Mehmedi was brought down in the area which was converted by defender Fabian Schar.
Despite plenty of attempts on goal, the visitors finally got their second when Xherdan Shaqiri found Mehmedi to nod home with 13 minutes remaining as they looked to ease to victory.
But Andorra caused some concern through Alexandre Martinez's 25-yard strike in stoppage but Switzerland held on to maintain their 100 per cent start.
Hungary moved above opponents Latvia and the Faroe Islands to third in European World Cup Qualifying Group B with a 2-0 win in Riga.
Goals from Ola Toivonen, Oscar Hiljemark and Victor Lindelof steered Sweden to a 3-0 home victory over Bulgaria in World Cup European Qualifying Group A while France took control of the group with a 1-0 win over Netherlands.
The Swedes grabbed the lead in the 39th minute when Emil Forsberg's cross went via Marcus Berg and Bulgaria defender Aleksandar Aleksandrov to Toivonen, who blasted in.
Moments after Ivelin Popov squandered a great chance to equalise by shooting wide, Hiljemark made it 2-0 in the 45th minute with a fine right-foot finish.
Lindelof then hooked home in the 58th to seal a win that sees Sweden move up to second in the group, level on seven points from three games with leaders France. Bulgaria, who have now lost twice in two matches under boss Petar Hubchev, stay fourth.
Ten-man Luxembourg claimed their first point in World Cup European Qualifying Group A as Aurelien Joachim's late free-kick secured them a 1-1 draw against Belarus in Borisov.
