Bafetimbi Gomis' first-half strike was enough to clinch Marseille a much-needed 1-0 home win against Metz.

Gomis fired the decisive goal in the 13th minute of the clash when he lashed the ball home from close range following a corner.

It was the former Swansea striker's sixth goal of the season and secured Marseille just their third win of the Ligue 1 campaign.

Bordeaux defender Nicolas Pallois' first goal of the season earned his side a point and ended Rennes' 100 per cent home record.

The hosts were on course to make it five wins out of five in Ligue 1 at Roazhon Park thanks to Diego Contento's own goal a minute before half-time, but Pallois drove home from a 66th-minute corner to level things up.

The result sees both clubs move on to 14 points - nine adrift of leaders Nice but only three behind the European spots.

Nolan Roux converted a stoppage-time penalty as St Etienne preserved their unbeaten home league record this season with a 1-1 draw against Dijon.

Substitute striker Roux placed his spot kick into the top corner in the fifth minute of added time after Quentin Bernard had fouled Loic Perrin to cancel out Pierre Lees-Melou's first-half opener for Dijon.

Bernard was booked for his challenge on Perrin, while team-mate and fellow defender Cedric Varrault was shown a straight red card for remonstrating with the referee.
