Burnley forward Andre Gray says he is keen to move on with his career after serving a four-match ban for offensive tweets he posted in 2012.

The 25-year-old was charged by the FA with bringing the game into disrepute after the tweets, which he posted during his time with Hinckley Town, emerged earlier this season.

He has publicly apologised for the content of the posts and, as well as his suspension, he received a £25,000 fine and an order to attend an FA education course.

Gray returned for Saturday's hard-fought 0-0 draw at Manchester United after six weeks on the sidelines, including the international break, and is now looking forward to playing a full part as the Clarets bid to stay out of trouble at the foot of the table.

"It's been difficult," Gray admitted. "I've been training and having to do extras.

"It's hard because you want to be playing. I've just kept my head down, really, tried to stay fit and just got on with it.

"I'm glad it's over with. It's obviously a long time ago now, so it's been frustrating.

"It is what it is at the end of the day, so I've just got to get on with it and keep my head down.

"I've come here to play football and play at the highest level, so it was just another bump in the road.

"It's over with now and I'm just going to move on with my career."

Burnley claimed their first away point of the season at Old Trafford and are four points clear of the drop zone after their first 10 games.

And Gray reflected: "We got promoted last year so there were a couple of good results there, but that was the biggest crowd that I've played in front of and to get a result was fantastic.

"Nobody has given us a prayer so far and they probably won't until that last game is done and we've stayed up.

"To get a result against all the odds proves that we're ready and we're going to fight for it.

"There are a lot of positives to take out of it. To get the three points last week against Everton and get a point against Man United is brilliant."
