Former Premier League referee Dermot Gallagher explains why Jon Moss made the correct decision to send Manchester United manager Jose Mourinho to the stand

Referee Jon Moss made the correct decision to send Jose Mourinho to the stands during Manchester United's 1-1 draw with West Ham on Sunday.

That's the view of former Premier League referee Dermot Gallagher, who praised the call made by Moss and his fourth official Anthony Taylor at Old Trafford.

We asked Gallagher to analyse several of the weekend's controversial incidents, including Mourinho's dismissal and Peter Odemwingie's red card for Rotherham against Leeds United.

Was Jose Mourinho's Pogba fury justified?

SCENARIO: The Manchester United manager was sent off by referee Moss after kicking a water bottle, following the decision to book Paul Pogba for diving.

DERMOT'S VERDICT: Correct decision.

DERMOT SAYS: There was a code of conduct issued to all the clubs at the start of the season and a big part of that was conduct in the technical area. It was decided there would be a process, with a formal warning, a public warning and maybe a removal. It was very irresponsible from Mourinho, it sends the wrong message out to 76,000 people at the game, and it will be seen on TV. It is not acceptable. Anthony Taylor was quite right to call Jon Moss over, tell him what happened and I think Jon Moss took the right action.

INCIDENT: Paul Pogba booking for diving

SCENARIO: Paul Pogba was booked for simulation following a challenge by Mark Noble.

DERMOT'S VERDICT: Correct decision.

DERMOT SAYS: I don't think there is any doubt it was not a lunging tackle where someone has come in very high and the player has to take evasive action to avoid serious injury. It's a tackle where the player may have been going for the ball and the way Pogba reacted, it would have been harder for me to stand here and defend the referee for awarding a free-kick in this situation compared to what he did. Noble has missed the player by so far. We have talked about referees being strong in these instances, and Jon Moss has been strong.

SCENARIO: The Arsenal defender conceded a spot-kick following a challenge on Bournemouth striker Callum Wilson.

DERMOT'S VERDICT: Correct decision.

DERMOT SAYS: Monreal comes across him and he makes the first contact. I think it's a penalty because the Arsenal player has taken his ground away and blocked Wilson off.

SCENARIO: The Arsenal forward was yellow carded for a lunge on Arter, but did the challenge merit a red card?

DERMOT'S VERDICT: Alexis Sanchez could have been sent off.

DERMOT SAYS: I thought this was a yellow card straight away. When I then saw the replay I think it's a red card. I feel sorry for the referee because he can't see the extent of the tackle and it really is a very, very bad tackle. Sanchez could have no argument if he was sent off.

SCENARIO: The Burnley midfielder appeared to be fouled when bundled into by Nicolas Otamendi in the Manchester City penalty area but a spot-kick was not awarded.

DERMOT'S VERDICT: Wrong decision.

DERMOT SAYS: It's a penalty. The defender cannot win the ball in this situation and sometimes as a defender there are balls into the box you cannot attack. The only way he can get to the ball is to go through the player. You can see quite clearly Otamendi cannot win the ball.

INCIDENT: Peter Odemwingie sent off for appearing to elbow opponent

Dermot Gallagher says the decision to send off Peter Odemwingie in Rotherham's clash with Leeds was a brilliant call

SCENARIO: The Rotherham forward was given a straight red card following his elbow to the head of Leeds defender Liam Cooper.

DERMOT'S VERDICT: Correct decision.

DERMOT SAYS: This has to be the best refereeing decision of the weekend. Not because the referee has sent him off, but because he has identified it. When you see it back, Odemwingie is so clever. He has faced up, looked at the player, definitely elbowed him in the face and Stuart Attwell has got a difficult angle. It's a brilliant spot, a brilliant recognition and he's acted 100 per cent correct.

After the match, Odemwingie apologised and claimed the incident was unintentional.
