Tottenham are preparing to thrash out a new contract for Toby Alderweireld, according to Sky sources.

Discussions will take place once the player is fully fit and back playing regular games.

Alderweireld has been out since October with a knee problem but boss Mauricio Pochettino has said he expects the player to feature in the Champions League clash with CSKA Moscow on Wednesday.

The centre-back still has two-and-a-half years left to run on the four-year deal he signed when joining from Atletico Madrid in 2015.

Spurs are in the process of renewing contracts for a host of first-team players, and are also understood to be in talks with club captain Hugo Lloris.

Last week, Harry Kane added his name to a long list of players that have signed new deals since the start of the season, including Jan Vertonghen, Christian Eriksen, Kyle Walker, Eric Dier, Danny Rose and Dele Alli.

Pochettino has also dismissed reports in France that Alderweireld has a £25.4m release clause in his current deal.
