Newcastle duo Jonjo Shelvey & Paul Dummett win appeals against red cards

Newcastle United have appealed successfully against the red cards given to Jonjo Shelvey and Paul Dummett in their 2-1 defeat at Nottingham Forest last Friday.
Referee Steve Martin sent off Shelvey in the 33rd minute after the Newcastle midfielder appeared to kick out at Forest captain Henri Lansbury when the two were grappling on the ground.
Newcastle were then reduced to nine men in first-half stoppage-time when defender Dummett was adjudged to have denied Forest an obvious goal scoring opportunity after bundling Lansbury over in the penalty box.
However, the Magpies' claim of wrongful dismissal was upheld following an Independent Regulatory Commission hearing on Tuesday and the two players will not serve any suspension.
A statement on the Newcastle website read: "Both Jonjo Shelvey and Paul Dummett have had their suspensions withdrawn with immediate effect after their wrongful dismissal claims were successful following an Independent Regulatory Commission hearing.
"The Newcastle United pair were dismissed for violent conduct and denying an obvious goal scoring opportunity respectively during the game against Nottingham Forest on 2nd December 2016."
Matt Ritchie had put Newcastle in front at the City Ground either side of the dismissals to Shelvey and Dummett, but a Nicklas Bendtner strike and an own goal from Jamaal Lascelles condemned Rafa Benitez's side to their second straight Sky Bet Championship defeat.
