His last two games in charge were impressive victories over Motherwell and then Rangers, with the 2-0 win over Mark Warburton's side making them Celtic's closest challengers at the time.

Hearts' first game after Neilson's departure ended in a 2-2 draw with Ross County, with wins since for the Gers and Aberdeen seeing the Edinburgh side drop to fourth.

They will play their first game under new head coach Ian Cathro on Saturday when their opposition will again be Rangers, who moved back into second with a 2-1 win over Aberdeen on Saturday.

A couple of hours before that game, Neilson will have taken on rivals AFC Wimbledon in a 1pm kick-off at Stadium MK in his first league game in charge of the Dons.
