Stoke boss Mark Hughes has revealed he is ready to spend in January in order for the Potters to kick on.
Stoke 12th in the Premier League and have endured a frustratingly inconsistent season.
Hughes shelled out £13m on Joe Allen in the summer and last season the club paid £18.3m for Giannelli Imbula.
Ahead of the January window, the Stoke manager revealed the club are looking at several targets.
"I've always got a list. That doesn't change throughout the year," said Hughes.
"We're constantly looking at opportunities and agents will be calling over Christmas I'm sure.
"January isn't an easy time to go into the market. We're not looking for squad players, we're looking at players to have an immediate impact.
"We've got areas where we think we can do something to help the team. If we have to bide the time until the summer so be it... If you can do work in previous windows it can sometimes help you, like it did with Shaqiri.
"We've got an amount that we can spend. If the right player becomes available we'll be able to spend it I'm sure."
One player Hughes confirmed may not be switching to the BET365 Stadium is on-loan keeper Lee Grant.
Grant made a surprise deadline-day switch to Stoke in the summer after falling down the pecking order at Derby and has flourished in the absence of No 1 Jack Butland.
Hughes insisted Stoke will not be held to ransom as they attempt to secure a deal for the on-loan goalkeeper.
"It's as we were really. We would like to do something. At the moment, Derby want a bit too much money!" Hughes added.
"There needs to be a common ground. There's a value on Lee, who's done fantastic for us - but we're not going to be held to ransom. At the moment we're a little bit far apart. If that continues we'll have to look at other options.
"He came here with no promises, no guarantees of playing. Circumstances allowed him an opportunity and he's taken it. His form is good, it's consistent. He came in when we were conceding too readily and settled us down. We would like to get a deal done."
Stoke host champions Leicester City this weekend and will have to do so without Marko Arnautovic who starts a three-game ban following his red card against Southampton on Wednesday.
