Espanyol's Javi Fuego missed from two yards out in the 91st minute during the La Liga draw with Deportivo on Friday.

The 33-year-old midfielder could not adjust his feet quickly enough after the ball had hit the crossbar, seeing the ball fall agonisingly wide.

Deportivo's Celso Borges, who earlier hit the crossbar with a dipping volley, headed in Emre Colak's left-wing corner to put Gaizka Garitano's men ahead in the 59th minute.

But Espanyol, who were thrashed 4-1 by city rivals Barcelona before the winter break, equalised four minutes later when forward Gerard Moreno seized on a mistake by Brazilian defender Sidnei to finish from close range.

Deportivo defender Juanfran was dismissed for a second yellow card in the 90th minute and, from the resulting free-kick, Espanyol almost snatched all three points.

The draw means Espanyol stay ninth in the La Liga table on 23 points, with Deportivo 15th on 17 points.
