As Manchester United's clash with Liverpool approaches, the Vault recalls Wayne Rooney's match-winning heroics at Anfield in 2005.
There are few achievements that satisfy United fans more than getting one over fierce rivals Liverpool, and in the mid-2000s it was something Sir Alex Ferguson's men achieved regularly.
Two weeks after Roy Carroll's notorious Pedro Mendes gaffe, United travelled to Anfield in early 2005 looking to keep pace with Premier League pace-setters Chelsea and defending champions Arsenal.
And it proved to be the perfect platform for a fresh-faced Rooney, returning to Merseyside for the first time following his his big-money move from Everton, to endear himself to the United faithful.
Diego Forlan and Ryan Giggs had punished high-profile Jerzy Dudek errors on United's previous two trips to Anfield, and the Reds stopper was left with egg on his face for a third time.
The Pole allowed Rooney's tame 25-yard effort to whistle under his body into the back of the net as Rooney sealed a third-consecutive victory at the home of United's biggest rivals.
