Claudio Ranieri plans to return to management following his controversial sacking by Leicester, according to Jimmy Floyd Hasselbaink.
Ranieri, 65, was shown the door by the relegation-threatened Foxes last week - nine months after sensationally leading them to the Premier League title.
But Hasselbaink, who played under the Italian at Chelsea and Atletico Madrid, revealed on Premier League Daily that Ranieri has no plans to retire.
"I played for five years under him and always stayed in good contact," said Hasselbaink.
"After he lost his job I spoke to him. He was surprised [to be sacked], but understands football and how it works.
"He did believe he would still be able to save the club, but he also knows how it works in football.
"He's full of life and says he's not finished with football, so he's going to keep on going."
Having struggled all season, Leicester were transformed in their first match since Ranieri's dismissal, beating Liverpool 3-1 on Monday evening.
But former QPR boss Hasselbaink insists it is too soon to judge whether Leicester were right to axe Ranieri.
The Dutchman said: "Let's not get carried away. They've only played one match. They've got a few more to go. We will see.
"They're still in the bottom six and it's still very close. There are still a lot of important matches to play.
"Can they keep this level of performance up? For me, it's still to see. It's about if you can do it on a regular basis."
