Dimitar Berbatov has told Goals on Sunday he intends to continue playing after talks over a move to Sunderland broke down.
The 36-year-old former Bulgaria captain has been without a club since leaving PAOK Salonika last summer.
He last played in the Premier League for Fulham having enjoyed successful spells at Tottenham and Manchester United.
A switch to Sunderland, who currently sit bottom of the table, failed to materialise but Berbatov says he wants another chance in the Premier League.
"I want to play and to be honest I had a couple of conversations with managers, even the Sunderland one," he told Ben and Kammy. "But in the end nothing happened."
Asked if he was interested in Sunderland, he added: "Of course, at this stage of my life it's only about football now.
"Just to play a little bit more, one more game or one more year. To enjoy my team-mates, the football, the pitch, the fans. But as I said nothing came of it in the end."
Berbatov spent four years at Manchester United, scoring 49 top-flight goals in 108 appearances, and recent reports in the English media have claimed he has returned to United to train as he looks for a new club.
"I have been there to see a couple of friends," Berbatov confirmed. "Between time I train back home and I train when I'm in England.
"The Premier League is the place every player wants to come and play. When you have been a part of it for so long, as I have been, and you score goals and win championships, it's a feeling you want to go back and do again."
