Everton midfielder Ross Barkley has not travelled with the rest of the squad to Tanzania due to a groin injury, Sky sources understand.

It is believed he has stayed at home for treatment, but there is no timescale being put on how long he'll be out.

His absence from the 25-man squad had been reported by some sections of the media as an indication of his future lying away from Goodison Park, but Sky sources understand injury is the cause of his unavailability.

New signings Wayne Rooney, Michael Keane and Davy Klaassen were included among the travelling party at Liverpool airport travelling to Dar Es Salaam on Tuesday night.

The 23-year-old's contract with the Toffees has less than 12 months to run, with him yet to commit to a new deal and previously warned by manager Ronald Koeman over the possibility of his departure should he fail to do so.
