Brighton are closing in on Czech Republic U21 international defender Ales Mateju, Sky sources understand.
The 21-year-old, who plays for Viktoria Plzen, has represented his country at all levels between U16s and U21s.
He has made 50 senior club appearances and has experience of playing in the Europa League with Plzen.
Sky sources understand the deal is 'close but not done'.
Brighton have spent nearly £9m in the transfer market this summer with seven new faces at the Amex Stadium.
The newly-promoted club begin their Premier League campaign at home to Manchester City on August 12.
